How to use 70s in a sentence?
The mainstream seems to be referencing '60s, '70s and '80s rock, rather than '30s, '40s, '50s blues and jazz and that sort of thing, our generation, the '60s 'jammers' let's say, our influences were people like Coltrane, and blues artists like Bobbie Bland, or Wilson Pickett or more of a roots-y thing. I think that young musicians today are more influenced by rock music. It's sort of narrowed down a little bit. That's not to say that it's not extremely expressive and diverse, but I don't sense a lot of roots involvement.
I think it’s something about your children leaving the house and the things that used to anchor you are no longer there, you’re a little bit at sea, and so you reach for the bottle to dull the uncertainty. I sensed that a bit with myself. … I’ve stopped [drinking], and my life has improved significantly. My kids are in their mid-20s and I’ll probably be in my 70s by the time I have grandchildren. I want to be healthy for them.
It was specific, really, to the very tumultuous times that were going on in the United States. In the early '70s — in 1970, 1971 — it was actually the worst and most violent time, cities were on fire and the Vietnam War was finally ending, and titanic struggles had forced them [the government] to stop doing this [after] it had been going on for 15 years or more. Awful. And so, I think there was a yearning for something American. And my song fit the bill.
We represent well over 100 artists from the late '70s and early '80s who want to own their U.S. copyrights, but are being stonewalled by Sony and Universal after sending notices, in many cases, we are talking about artists who have never received royalties from the recordings.
I once had brunch with Warren Beatty, and I said, Do you have any idea how lucky you are that you were Warren Beatty in the 70s, before everyone had a cellphone with a video camera ? Warren Beatty just smiled. Its so true, you go to a karaoke bar with a male friend in the neighborhood, the bar says no videotaping and suddenly, theres two different videos of you doing karaoke. Who did that ? Who exposed the videotape ? Who sold it ?
