  1. currency

Money is the authorized medium of exchange; coined money is called coin or specie. What are termed in England bank-notes are in the United States commonly called bills; as, a five-dollar bill. The notes of responsible men are readily transferable in commercial circles, but they are not money; as, the stock was sold for $500 in money and the balance in merchantable paper. Cash is specie or money in hand, or paid in hand; as, the cash account; the cash price. In the legal sense, property is not money, and money is not property; for property is that which has inherent value, while money, as such, has but representative value, and may or may not have intrinsic value. Bullion is either gold or silver uncoined, or the coined metal considered without reference to its coinage, but simply as merchandise, when its value as bullion may be very different from its value as money. The word capital is used chiefly of accumulated property or money invested in productive enterprises or available for such investment.

How to use currency in a sentence?

  1. Kyosuke Suzuki:

The market has witnessed this before - it remembers the brinkmanship during the Greek debt negotiations of 2011. There are only nine trading days left until the Feb. 28 deadline but some see that as enough time. Thus we are not seeing the euro sold in panic, on the other hand tail risk is definitely rising. This is limiting bargain-hunting of the euro by short-term players and the currency will remain under selling pressure.

  2. Anton Siluanov:

We will sue, because we undertook all necessary action so that investors would receive their payments, we will show the court proof of our payments, to confirm our efforts to pay in rubles, just as we did in foreign currency. It won't be a simple process.

  3. Jeff Ng:

Growth still looks resilient even though external demand was weak. This may reverse if global oil prices continue to climb. The result implies little pressure for the central bank to ease for now, also the current account surplus should stabilise the currency.

  4. John Maynard Keynes:

The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency. By a continuing process of inflation governments can confiscate, secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens.

  5. Chief Financial Officer Anders Boyer:

In general, the stronger dollar is positive for GN Store Nord and especially for ReSound. Looking into 2016, we expect a three-digit million contribution to the bottom line( in Danish crowns), netcom however, has more expenses in dollars than income, and therefore reacts negatively on the strengthened currency.
